Common Signs and Symptoms of Vertigo

Atlanta GA Physical TherapistIf you’re suddenly experiencing balance and dizziness issues, you may have something called Vertigo. Vertigo is a feeling of being imbalanced. You may also be experiencing dizzy spells, having the sensation that you are spinning or the ground is spinning around you.

Vertigo is usually caused by an inner ear problem such as BPPV (calcium particle forming in the canals of your inner ear, Meniere’s disease (buildup of fluid and changing pressure in your ear), or Vestibular neuritis (an infection in the inner ear). You can also experience Vertigo if you have a head or neck injury, stroke or tumor. Some medications can cause ear damage. Migraine headaches can even lead to Vertigo. (more…)

Beat Balance Issues with Sovereign Rehabilitation

Dunwoody GA Physical TherapistsFeelings of uneasiness when walking, wooziness when trying to steady to yourself, sensations of spinning or floating – these are just a few of the symptoms common in balance and dizziness disorders such as vertigo, which are second only to lower back pain in terms of frequency of occurrence for adults. They’re also difficult for medical professionals and sufferers alike to quantify and explain in terms of intensity and frequency. There’s no measure for feeling wobbly, and that can make it hard to treat.

Also, and because of this reason, these symptoms may not seem so serious to those who don’t experience them. But for the many men and women who do live with balance disorders, they can be immobilizing, affecting their ability to simply navigate their day.

BPPV Treatment

Doctors that treat Vertigo Atlanta GABenign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a type of vertigo that is caused by a problem in the inner ear. Symptoms of BPPV are the feeling that you are spinning and/or that the world is spinning around you. At Sovereign Rehabilitation, we are a provider of comprehensive physical and rehabilitation therapy with specialists who are specifically trained to help patients with balance and dizziness disorders such as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. We understand how debilitating feelings of dizziness and spinning can be, affecting all areas of your life at any point during the day. By helping patients find relief from BPPV, we help them better function during the day – ultimately gaining a better quality of life.

Inside the inner ear, calcium stones are present to help you keep your balance. These stones are designed to move around when you turn or move your head, but inflammation or infection can stop these stones from moving. When the stones do not move with your own movement, the brain receives a false signal and causes vertigo. The feeling of dizziness is much more than the “light headed’ feeling that sometimes occurs when you stand up quickly. BPPV can be bad enough that it makes you feel nauseous and vomit, and also finding it hard to stand or walk without falling over. These severe symptoms can drastically affect your life, especially if you care for young children who need to be picked up, or if you are involved in a sporting even that requires quick, constant movement. At Sovereign Rehabilitation we deliver rehabilitation therapy that is specific to patients who suffer from BPPV.
