orthopedic physical therapy
3
SR’s physical therapists provide orthopedic physical therapy to diagnose and treat soft-tissue and joint injuries throughout the human body. Typical orthopedic conditions we treat are:
- Spine disorders (including neck and low back pain)
- Headaches
- Hip / knee conditions
- Foot / ankle injuries
- Shoulder disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) pain
- Bell’s Palsy
treatment options
Therapeutic procedures can include:
- joint mobilization and/or manipulation: Passive movement of a joint or soft tissue at varying speeds and amplitudes, including a low-amplitude, high-velocity therapeutic movement
- muscle energy techniques: Voluntary contraction of patient muscle against a counterforce applied by the operator
- neuromuscular reeducation: The reestablishment of normal muscle activation, or recruitment around a dysfunctional joint
- electrophysiological agents: These include ice, heat, and electrotherapy (ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and iontophoresis), directed to promote healing when indicated
At SR the practice of physical therapy is defined by the integration of examination, history, analysis and restoration of movement dysfunction, where the electrophysiological agents are merely used as an adjunct to treatment.
To qualify for a manual therapist certification (MTC), a physical therapist must complete post-graduate training and practical examinations administered by an accredited institution. Due to the increased understanding of pathoanatomy, joint biomechanics, and their relationships to musculoskeletal dysfunctions, the certified clinician is able to make precise interventions, in order to make proper recommendations for treatment and exercise prescription. Certified clinicians have reported an increase in treatment efficiency, and a decrease in the number of patient visits, due to accurate assessment and appropriate intervention.
SR is privileged to have a number of MTCs on our staff.
We recommend comfortable clothing with an elastic waistline, such as shorts, and sports bras Jogging suits and shoes are also suitable.
