Aquatic Therapy

Category: Aquatic Rehabilitation, General

Aquatic therapy is a beneficial form of therapy that is performed in the water. Aquatic therapy is useful for treating an array of medical conditions, and it is used to assist in patient healing. Sovereign Rehabilitation uses aquatic therapy to decrease pain, promote healing, facilitate movement, and provide muscle resistance in a low impact environment. Many studies have been done to document the benefits of aquatic therapy for those with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Neurological Conditions, and those recovering from injuries and surgery.

At Sovereign Rehabilitation, we understand and use the physical properties of water to assist in patient healing and exercise performance. For most patients recovering from surgery or injury, and for those with a debilitating condition, the buoyancy provided by the water assists in supporting the weight of the patient. This buoyancy factor allows patients to target specific muscle groups without having to support the stress placed on their joints. By decreasing the amount of joint stress, it is easier for patients to undergo therapy exercises.

Aquatic therapy also provides an excellent exercise program designed at utilizing resistance. The viscosity of water allows for muscle strengthening without the need of weights. This is especially beneficial for patients recovering from surgery or injury who should not lift heavy weights in order to allow for proper healing.

Sovereign Rehabilitation is dedicated to providing the most advanced physical rehabilitation services with individual attention given to each patient. Our aquatic therapy treatment is just one way we work with you and your physician to achieve your wellness goals.
