New Year, New Baby

Not only is it a new year, but you’re having a new baby too! This is going to be a sweet 2018 for you. The sweet baby snuggles coming your way in this next year will be moments to cherish for a lifetime. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Now that you’re carrying a baby in your belly, you may be experiencing some physical challenges related to your pregnancy as well. For these reasons, and many more, it is imperative that you faithfully attend your prenatal appointments with your doctor.

Prenatal care is so important because it can help you have a healthy and full-term pregnancy. Maintaining proper healthcare throughout your pregnancy helps avoid preterm birth and birth complications. As soon as you find out you are pregnant, call your health care provider to schedule your first appointment.

During your prenatal appointments you will need to provide the first day of your last menstrual period to help determine your due date. You will also discuss your specific health conditions such as depression, diabetes, high blood pressure and weight, and any medications that you currently take. You will also provide information about your family health history and your pregnancy history. Be sure to include any habits that you may have that could harm your baby such drinking alcohol, drug use, smoking or abuse of prescription drugs.

In addition to your regular prenatal appointments, you may need to schedule therapy if you are experiencing back pain and any other symptoms associated with your pregnancy. Did you know that more than half of all pregnant women suffer from back pain and/or other orthopedic problems that can include pain in the groin area, rib cage, mid-back or shoulder blades?
