Chronic Pelvic Pain

Category: Pelvic Pain, Women's Health Services

Pelvic Pain Treatment in Atlanta GAChronic pelvic pain is a condition that affects many women each year. The pain is generally spread throughout the entire pelvic region rather than found in a specific spot. Chronic pelvic pain resides in the area below the belly button and between the hips, and it lasts longer than six months. While there are cases when chronic pelvic pain can be a symptom of another disease, chronic pelvic pain can be a condition in its own right and needs to be treated properly to find relief. Many women may never receive a specific diagnosis that explains their pain, but that does not mean that the condition is not treatable. At Sovereign Rehabilitation our licensed physical therapists work to find a treatment that focuses on managing the pain so that patients can return to their active lifestyles.

Pinched Nerve Treatment in Atlanta GANeuritis is the inflammation of nerves within the spine that causes pain and numbness to the areas that the nerves travel to within the body. Nerves from the thoracic (middle) spine extend to the upper abdominal area as well as the back, neck, and area between the shoulders. Lumbar nerves extend through the lower back, gluteal muscles, upper thigh, calf, and down into the foot. Pain or numbness can be felt in any of the areas in which the nerves travel. Dry Needling Treatments in Atlanta GAThere are a variety of musculoskeletal problems that can be treated with various methods. Headaches, hip and knee pain, fibromyalgia, tennis and golf elbow, neck and back pain, sciatica, tendinitis and other issues can all be treated by licensed physical therapists. At Sovereign Rehabilitation, our licensed physical therapists offer different methods for treating pain. Dry Needling involves the insertion of a thin filament needle to stimulate the healing process of soft tissues and trigger points that result in pain relief and restoration of healthy physiology. A trigger point is a hyperirritable point in skeletal muscle that is associated with a hypersensitive palpable nodule. There are many medical studies that support the effectiveness of dry needling for improving pain control, reducing muscle tension, normalizing biochemical and electrical dysfunction of motor endplates, and facilitating an accelerated return to active rehabilitation. Most people report that they do not feel the insertion of the needle.

Category: Bursitis, Orthopedic and Sports Therapy

Bursitis Treatment in Atlanta GABursitis is the inflammation or irritation of the bursa – which is a sac that is filled with a lubricating fluid that is located between tissues such as bones, muscles, and tendons to decrease the friction and irritation associated with movement. Bursitis is most often caused by repetitive movements and age. Overuse of a joint can increase a person’s risk of bursitis. Such activities include tennis, golf, throwing, and gardening. Age also affects who will develop bursitis. As tendons age they are less able to tolerate stress, and they become less elastic, making them easier to tear and deteriorate.

Rotator Cuff Injury

Category: Orthopedic and Sports Therapy, Rotator Cuff Injury

Rotator Cuff Treatment in Atlanta GAThe group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint to keep the upper arm bone firmly within the socket of the shoulder is known as the rotator cuff. Injury to the rotator cuff most often occurs in those who repeatedly use their arms above their heads. Painters, carpenters, and those who play baseball and tennis are prime candidates for rotator cuff injuries. Those who suffer from a rotator cuff injury often require physical therapy to improve flexibility and strength of the surrounding muscles of the shoulder joint. For those who have had to undergo surgery for rotator cuff repair, physical therapy is also needed to rehabilitate the joint and muscles.

The premier physical, manual, and occupational therapists at Sovereign Rehabilitation are committed to helping patients recover from rotator cuff surgery and find relief from rotator cuff injuries. Exercises can help restore strength and flexibility in the shoulder to promote healing and function. At Sovereign Rehabilitation, our treatment programs are individually tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient. The goal of our rotator cuff injury rehabilitation program is to treat the injury while also preventing further injury from occurring.

Multiple Sclerosis Treatment

Category: General, MS Treatment

Multiple Sclerosis Treatment in Atlanta GAMultiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease in which the nerves of the brain and spinal cord are damaged by one’s own immune system. The damage to the brain and spinal cord results in a loss of muscle control, balance, vision, and sensation such as numbness. The nerves that make up the central nervous system act as the body’s messenger system. A fatty substance called myelin insulates the nerves and covers each nerve. This fatty substance helps in the transmission of nerve impulses, or messages, between the brain and other parts of the body. It is these “messages” that control muscle movements such as walking and talking. At Sovereign Rehabilitation, we offer rehabilitation programs that focus on treating the numbness or weakness in the limbs, balance issues, fatigue, and muscle spasms associated with MS.
