If you suddenly have twitching, weakness or paralysis on one side of your face, you may have something called Bell’s Palsy. Bell’s Palsy is not always isolated to one side of your face, but that is the most common occurrence. Bell’s Palsy can also be accompanied by drooping of your eyelid and/or corner of your mouth. Drooling or dryness of your eyes or mouth may be present and impairment of taste may also be associated with it.
If you experience symptoms of Bell’s Palsy it most likely was a sudden onset. The peak of Bell’s Palsy typically is reached within 48 hours. If this is you, you certainly are led to wonder, “What caused my Bell’s Palsy?” (more…)

Saturday, September 29th is Family Health and Fitness Day in the United States. This day is observed annually on the last Saturday in September. This day was established in 1996 and is designed to promote family involvement in physical activity in support of one of the goals of the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on physical activity and health.

Georgia’s new distracted driving law prohibits motorists from physically holding their cell phones while driving. According to an article in the AJC, nearly 1,000 tickets and warnings were issued just 4 days after the Hands Free Georgia Law (HB673) went into effect. Now that World Cup is over it may be no longer time to be a spectator and time to get back to the field yourself. Noises in your jaw can be normal. A normal jaw sound is called “subluxation.” Subluxation is when your lower jawbone extends too far over the ridge on the opposite upper part of your joint. You may hyperextend your jaw and hear a loud “pop” sound when you yawn a mighty yawn! These sounds are normal, albeit, noisy!
However, there is a clicking noise that can come from your jaw that may be a sign of Temporomandibular Joint Pain (TMJ). If your TMJ has a dysfunction then you have something called TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder). This is a dysfunction of the TMJ and your muscles that help your jaw movement. (more…)
