Nix These Bad Work Habits

Dunwoody GA Physical TherapistsDid you know that one of the biggest roadblocks to your overall health may be your job? It’s true! We spend about 1/3 of our waking life at work, and if you’re confined to a cubicle at a stressful job each day, your physical and mental well-being can take a beating.

Luckily, all you need to do is make a few simple tweaks to fend off stress, pain, inflammation and other work health woes.

For starters,

Try to keep stress levels low.
This one can be tricky, especially if your work in a pressure-cooker environment, but it’s definitely worth a try. Elevated stress levels have been linked to increased pain and inflammation, and serious health conditions such as obesity, high blood pressure, and headaches. It can also seriously impact the quality of your sleep.

To keep a check on your stress levels on the job, try de-cluttering your desk and inbox. Focusing on one task at a time, taking short breaks throughout the day, and giving yourself time to breathe can also help.

Find ways to move around.
Being confined to a desk chair all day is a surefire way to cause back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, wrist pain, and a slew of other uncomfortable health issues. It also contributes to weight gain and poor body alignment.

To help combat this, take 3-5 minutes every hour to get up and move around. Stretch at your desk or take the stairs to the break room. Going on a short walk during your lunch break is also a great way to add a little extra movement to your day.

Power up your lunches.
There are few things more important to your overall health than what you eat. Loading up on important nutrients throughout your workday can help you feel better, fight stress, keep your weight in check, and even combat pain.

Think high-protein, high-fiber breakfasts, lunches loaded with nutrient-rich fruits and veggies, and snacks like nuts, string cheese, and hummus that help keep you full without adding unhealthy calories. Stay hydrated with water and herbal teas.
