Saturday, September 29th is Family Health and Fitness Day in the United States. This day is observed annually on the last Saturday in September. This day was established in 1996 and is designed to promote family involvement in physical activity in support of one of the goals of the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on physical activity and health.
Sovereign Rehabilitation is excited to promote days like these because we know there is a strong connection between health and strength and injury prevention. We make it our goal to not only diagnose and treat injuries, but to help prevent them as well.
Ways to promote health and fitness in your family
- Sign everyone up– Instead of just signing up the kids for a sports team or activity, why not find an activity you can enjoy as well. Model for your children the importance and enjoyment of sports and physical activity.
- Eliminate Sodas and Sugary Drinks – Take one step closer to healthier eating and drinking by cutting out soda and sugary drinks. Perhaps you could reserve one day as a day you can indulge on one of these. May we suggest “Saturday nights are for Soda or a Sugary Drink” night?
- Go outside and play – Challenge the family to a game of four square or basketball in the driveway after dinner.
