Symptoms of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
If you are looking for expert treatment for your Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) symptoms, you can turn to the dedicated team from Sovereign Rehabilitation. BPPV is a disorder of the inner ear’s vestibular system and is the most common vestibular disorder. It is also the most common cause of vertigo and causes a sensation of spinning or vertigo that is both paroxysmal and positional. This means that it occurs suddenly with a change in head position.
The vestibular experts at Sovereign Rehabilitation are specially trained to provide rehabilitation therapy for patients who suffer from BPPV. Our rehabilitation programs are designed to resolve disequilibrium and dizziness symptoms. Therapy intervention is directed to provide activities for the balance and dizziness system’s gradual reeducation and reintegration. Therapy begins with lower-level movement exercises and calming activities, and progresses to increased movement and visual motor experiences as tolerated. Movement and visual compensation techniques are included to help the patient adjust to the problems of dizziness and balance.
Causes of BPPV
BPVV is caused when tiny crystals of calcium carbonate called otoconia detach from the otolithic membrane in the utricle and collect in one of the semicircular canals. When the head moves, the otoconia shift and stimulates the cupula to send false signals to the brain producing vertigo. The most common cause of BPPV is injury to the head although it can also occur for no known reason.
At Sovereign Rehabilitation, we make life feel better. If you are suffering from BPPV, please contact our Atlanta BPPV Treatment Specialists or call one of our area locations today so we can get you scheduled for an appointment. We look forward to serving you.
